In legislation worthy of being implemented in North Korea clampers in Sunderland have been issued with rocket propelled grenades in the latest efforts to punish illegal parking in the city.
The RPGs have been given to all parking wardens operating in the city. The idea behind the scheme is maximum punishment for those double parking in the hope that this will discourage others in the future from double parking. The new scheme has only been in operation from last week but has already been utilised on two occasions. Yesterday afternoon a passing patrol identified a BMW double parked outside a local arcade. The parking wardens hit the car with a direct hit leaving nothing but a smouldering shell of a car behind.
There has been no complaint as of yet from the owner of the car and first cases of the scheme in operation would seem to point to it as working as no cases of double parking were reported in the city today. It is expected that the scheme may be introduced by other city councils throughout the UK.
