Newly elected Ceann Comhairle Sean O Feraghail has promised to tackle the flatulating problem that blighted the previous Dail term.
In his first sitting as Ceann Comhairle Sean O Feraghail remarked that, “There was no doubt a serious flatulating problem during the last term. Deputies need to be able to conduct the business of the house in a pleasant, fresh and business like environment.”
O Feraghail’s remarks were generally well received by TDs some of whom described the previous term as similar to working in the sewers. Renowned rural deputy Michael Healy Rae likened the smell in the chamber to that of spreading slurry.
Although the discussion was conducted in a firm but fair manner a number of deputies noticed that Mick Wallace was rather uneasy throughout the debate. Asked afterwards if he had any comment to make on the house keeping of the Dail, the Wexford deputy said his main concern was the continuation of the famous chicken curry in the Dail canteen.
